5 Classic Kids Movies That Every Child Should See at Least Once

If there’s one part of childhood that we really miss, it’s spending the day together as a family and going to see a movie. Those days were filled with fun and laughter, and now that we’re parents we like to think that we owe some of those same experiences to our kids. So pop some popcorn and que up Netflix, and schedule a marathon family movie night with these awesome and classic kids movies.

1. Mary Poppins

Based on the book, Mary Poppins is a classic, telling the story of a wealthy British banker, his two children, and the eccentric nanny that he hires to take care of them. The kids embark on all kinds of adventures with Mary Poppins, and the father learns a few things too! The movie is set in the early 1930s in London, England and features Julie Andrews in her first major role – this movie launched her career.

2. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

If you’re a child of the 80s, you undoubtedly saw this sci-fi flick in the theatres. Decades later, it’s managed to stand the test of time, and now it’s considered a cinematic classic – both for its story and for the effects (which were state-of-the-art back in 1982). E.T. (an alien that gets stranded on Earth) befriends a young boy and his sister who help it get back home, while hiding it from his parents and the government.

3. The Wizard of Oz

You’re never really too old to enjoy the story of The Wizard of Oz – even though the movie has been out for over 75 years now. Chock full of catchy tunes and quotable quotes, The Wizard of Oz also won a ton of awards, including seven Academy Awards.

4. Toy Story

Toy Story seems like a newer movie, but can you believe it actually came out in the mid 90s? Seriously, it came out in 1995. Toy Story is a great kids movie that follows the story of Woody – a pull-string stuffed cowboy toy that talks and his ongoing feud with his owner’s new replacement toy Buzz Lightyear – a fancy space action figure.

5. Cinderella

Released in 1950, Cinderella is a classic tale and even though it’s been redone a million times, there’s still nothing like the original animated Disney version. The classic Cinderella story is fun and fantastical, which makes it perfect for family viewing.

What are your favorite kids movies? Did we leave some out? Let us know in the comments!
