At some point, your child is going to outgrow their room. They’ll need a new bed, will want more “grown up” decor, and will grow bored with their current wall color and decorations. Unfortunately for you, re-decorating is not always an budget-friendly endeavor. But with a little skill and a lot of know-how, you can pull off a kids room redesign on the cheap. Here are a couple of tips for making a big impact in your kids room on a small budget.
Update the Pain
By far, the quickest and cheapest way to update your kids room decor is to give it a fresh coat of paint. Nothing changes the look and feel of a room like a paint job. You can go from something boring to something bold and fun – like bright red or yellow. You can also make a room more dramatic by painting the walls a darker hue, which can be a good option for older kids.
We’ve talked before about how to create DIY wall art for your kids room, and this is a great way to personalize and change the decor of a room. From creating wall initials to hanging your child’s artwork on canvas, there’s a ton of different ways to use you and your child’s creativity to make their room more unique.
Stick on Some Wall Decals
Another great way to make affordable changes to your kids room is to add some wall decals. These are great, because they’re easy to remove (they won’t mess up paint or leave marks), and come in a variety of styles and themes. Want a forest themed room? They’ve got vine and tree wall decals. Want an animal themed room? Pick out some lions and tigers to stick to the wall!
Give Old Bedding the Boot
Sometimes all you need to do to shake things up is get some new sheets and a comforter. Linens can go a long way in making a kids room look fresh and new. Switching out old bedsheets and comforters for a new color or new design can really make a kids room pop.
